SUMMARY

The plant manager position has overall accountability for production, maintenance, quality, shipping and receiving, other production-related activities, and the facility in which these facilities are housed.  The Plant Manager provides leadership, professional development, and direction to plant employees. This position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

People and Culture

  • Coordinate plant activities through the planning with departmental managers to ensure the total manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Lean Production

  • Accountable for plant operations in production, maintenance, quality, and shipping and receiving.
  • Establish and monitor overall plant performance for production and quality standards.
  • Manage workflow to assist team in balancing priorities, providing backup support if needed and otherwise ensuring that all work is accomplished with an appropriate sense of urgency.
  • Implement cost effective systems of control over capital, operating expenditures, labor force, wages, and salaries.
  • Develop lean roadmap for assigned areas, determine benefits and resources required, set priorities for improvement, with accountability for execution
  • Accountable for continuous improvement as an innovator of positive change that impacts safety, profitability, inventory turns, on-time delivery, lead-time, and quality (effectiveness is measured primarily through predetermined metrics)
  • Drive cross training efforts to best support safety, quality, productivity, cost, and schedule commitment
  • Create Value Stream Maps to identify opportunities for production / process enhancement to achieve organizational goal
  • Execute Lean Manufacturing initiatives, including set-up reduction, workplace organization, standardized work, process / workflow improvements, visual management, and inventory reduction
  • Responsible for Inventory, performing monthly physical inventory and constantly maintain accurate inventory, minimizing or eliminating inventory write downs.
  • Work closely with Director of Operations analyzing and evaluating activities, cost, operations to determine plant progress towards stated goals and objectives.
  • Control and minimize labor overtime, premium freight and repair expenses while not sacrificing customer satisfaction.
  • Develop and control profits, plans, and budget.
  • Reviews and approves all plant relevant invoices to maintain expense awareness and assist in reducing expenditures where possible.
  • Assists Director of Operations as needed.
  • Complete and submit all work and reports accurately and on time, and taking appropriate action as needed.
  • Oversight of satellite facilities may be required.

Asset Management

  • Accountable for capital asset maintenance.
  • Recommends courses of action for equipment acquisition and disposal.
  • Forecasts Asset acquisitions and communicates this on a regular basis to Director of Operations.
  • Maintains existing plant facilities and equipment; replace or adjust plant facilities and equipment when necessary.

Safety

  • Implements and maintains preventative maintenance programs.
  • Incorporates shop floor organization and plant cleanliness among plant personnel.
  • Helps plan/maintain facility layout promoting safety, security, and productivity.
  • Ensures the safety of all employees, seeing that safety rules are followed, hazardous conditions are corrected, and equipment and vehicles are properly maintained.
  • Ensures all employees receive appropriate/required safety training for forklifts, equipment, machines, etc. and appropriate/required vehicle/equipment inspections are completed regularly.
  • Accountable for maintaining a safe, organized, and clean plant including all other non-work areas.
  • Accountable for plant security, opening and closing of plant. Monitors all comings and goings.
  • Accountable for annual update and coordination of Emergency Preparedness Plan.
  • Accountable for safety training.

    • Accountable for fulfill annual goals toward completion of Flashco’s Tiered safety plan.
  • Inventory
    • Accountable for maintaining controllable inventory adjustments per annual goal
  • Speed & Customer Satisfaction
    • Ship all orders complete. Back Orders less than 5% of total orders
    • 95% of order invoiced within 3 days
  • Efficiency
    • Continually improves efficiency meeting or exceeding annual goals
  • P&L
    • Meet or exceed annual EBITA goals
  • Performance Management
    • Completes all performance evaluations on time and thoroughly.
    • Complete records of one on one meetings including notes.
  • Actively participates in own development plan by taking at least one training course approved by Director of Operations per quarter.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum five years’ experience plant/general management experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Understanding of Lean principles
  • Lean Certifications preferred.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Much of the work consists of conveying information verbally and in writing and working on a computer while sitting or standing for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to sit, stand, and walk; use finger, handle, or feel objects; reach with hands; talk and hear; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee must have the ability to lift, carry, and/or move up to 50 pounds with regularity. Use of arms above the shoulder is sometimes required. The employee occasionally may need to transport himself or herself to another office location in mild to inclement weather. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The position will be working primarily indoors in an office environment, but also requires the employee to be in the outdoors on a regular basis, thus encountering varying weather conditions and temperatures.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be higher in the outdoors. Shop noise can be loud.
  • Product line involves lead based products that require special handling procedures. An annual blood test is required to monitor lead levels.
  • Work may require weekend and/or evening work.
  • Travel is primarily local during the business day, although infrequent out-of-the-area and overnight travel will be expected.
